2/8 Taxes because

2/8/2019

When North American colonists protested at the taxes Britain was levying, Parliament replied that the colonists were still British subjects under British law, so they were subject to British taxation. Parliament said that it represented all British subjects, even the colonists across the Atlantic Ocean, who didn’t have representatives in Parliament.

If you were a member of British Parliament (government), how would you explain or justify the need for these taxes?

I would just tell them that we spent money on keeping you safe and now you have to repay us. I feel like that’s pretty simple. We lost troops and money fighting their war. They need to repay

The debt from the war has crippled us. We need your help to retain our glory. You may not live in Great Britain but you are still British citizens. It is your duty to help your government.

I would say that we lost money through war and we spent money for the good. Now you all have to repay and regain the money that was spent and lost therefore we will recieve them in a form of taxes.

If I was in the British Parliament, I would explain the need for taxes in a calm but persuasive. I would say it in a calm and persuadipe way so that I can get the people to pay there taxes so that they would be ok with it.

If I was a member of the British Parliment trying to justify these taxes to the colonists, I would tell them that they were required to pay off the debts of the French Indian war, which was a war that was fought specifcally to protect the colonists themselves. I would also tell them that just because they are not in the motherland of Britain, they still must follow the same rules that are set there and that sometimes the rules may change and they have to get over it. I would tell them that if they do not like it they do not have to live in the colonies.

If is was a member of the British Parliament I would tell the colonists that the war cost a lot of money and we need to replenish that money some way. Therefore, the Parliament has decided to make the colonist pay taxes in order to make up for the money lost during the war. This is a way to make sure that everyone helps restore the money.
